Q. How do I find out about job fairs?
A. Check the Job Calendar column in the Sunday Seattle Times.  You will also find job fairs listed at these websites: www.worksourceskc.org and click on Hiring Events, www.go2worksource.com and click on Job Fair Calendar, and www.seattle.employmentguide.com and click on Job Fairs.

 

 

Q. Where can I get help with my job search?
A. WorkSource offers workshops for job seekers and also individual counseling.  Find an office near you and learn about their services at the following website:  www.worksourceskc.org.  The Mayor’s Office for Senior Citizens has an Employment Resource Center for 55+ to serve the mature worker.  Learn more about their services by calling 206-684-0500 or emailing seniors@seattle.gov.  AARP Foundation offers a career planning and job search program called WorkSearch and you can get information by calling 206-624-6698.

 

 

Q. Where can I get help with writing my resume?
A. WorkSource offices regularly offer a workshop called “Effective Resumes and Cover Letters.”  In addition, each Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday the WorkSource Renton office holds a Resume Lab where you can get individual help with your resume on a first come, first serve basis.  For additional information on workshop schedules by office, visit www.worksourceskc.org.

 

 

Q. I know networking is important.  How do I find networking groups?
A. One good way to both meet people and practice your speaking skills is by joining a Toastmasters group.  You can learn more at www.toastmasters.org.  There are also many professional and interest groups listed at the Seattle Networking Guide.  Visit www.iloveseattle.org to learn more.

 

Q. What other resources do you recommend to help me?
A. There are a number of helpful job search sites.  Some of the ones we have used are Indeed at www.indeed.com, WorkSource at www.go2worksource.com, and Wiser Worker at www.wiserworker.com.  The WorkSource site and also Quintessential Careers at www.quintcareers.com offer a lot of helpful career and job search advice, such as resume samples, along with job postings.
